Pancakes and Tea

The last couple of days have been much better. I've felt more like myself, I've been getting the hang of the team dynamic, I've eaten better and our sessions have gone well.

Here are some photos of our sessions:

We have been teaching about CVs this week. Something that surprised me on this project is that so many Cambodian youth have no idea what a CV is, or what it's for - one of them asked us the other day if they are supposed to write it themselves or if the company they apply to will write one for them. Also, they are supposed to write their CVs in English if they want to get noticed at all, even though a lot of them don't speak English beyond "hello".
We do a few different activities with them to help them understand CVs: the content, the format, the details, what's right and wrong. Then hopefully next week at least with the older groups we'll be able to help them write up a draft, in English.

There's a baguette shop that has opened opposite the office, so I've been able to have bread for lunch the last couple of days, which had helped with my appetite for rice.

I know today is pancake day, but I had forgotten about that until yesterday. Because we haven't been going to the usual place for lunch, yesterday we went to chill at Zaynab and Sokmeng's during the lunch hour, and they had tea! Real tea!
Anyway, their host dad speaks pretty good English and he told us the mum was planning to make pancakes that evening and she wanted us all to come - and then we realised it was pancake day today. So here are some photos of all that, from yesterday:

 A real kettle too!

The Yorkshire tea and the pancakes with lime and sugar were amazing.

We tried it with Khmer honey, which was very bitter, and Zaynab also had peanut butter on offer, but we didn't want to use too much of it up. The lime and sugar was the most similar to the UK toppings - lime is readily available here, lemon isn't. We had to use rice flour in the batter, so the pancakes were a bit dense. But other than that it was so good!

And tomorrow we have a day off with absolutely nothing planned. So I'm going to relax and sleep. Because we haven't really had a day off in about 2 weeks.

  1. Uncle Malcolm had his pancakes with lime & sugar too! (Only because we'd used 1/2 a lime in a soup recipe at lunchtime😁) He said they were very tasty!
