Wash day
Today we had an incredible sunset, which is a shame as I couldn't go to the rice fields to watch it as I absolutely had to wash my clothes today. I'm almost out of clothes - I've lasted pretty well with the supply I brought, but some of the t-shirts I have left are either too long or tight enough to be more sweaty than you'd like in 34 degree weather. Which is roughly the 5 middle hours of the day.
So we finished at the office at 4.45 ish, cycled home, bought some detergent (only a thousand riel/ 25 US cents), and then Channa helped me handwash my clothes. Handwashing about 14 shirts, 6 pairs of trousers, some PJs and two weeks of under wear definitely counts as a forearm workout.
We had three of these metal bowls and we had to fill them up using a small bucket from the big stone urn(?) Channa is facing in the first picture. You sort of swirl/scrub/wring them around in water with detergent in it, then wring them out and put them into another bowl of clean water, and then do that again, and then wring them out once more before hanging them up.
Then we had to carry the huge bowls of used water and dump them out by the coconut trees near the house.
It's a lot but I kind of enjoyed it. It's so chill being at the house. The family are so nice. The mum was bathing the baby just out of these pictures and the dad was sorting the cows out. Not that it won't be nice to see a washing machine again!
In other news:
Today I had noodles for breakfast,
here is a picture of the Employability subteam, hard at work,
and this is how I eat dinner.
(Sitting on the table is completely normal here. My host grandmother does it as does the aunt)
Tomorrow we have a day off for some social stuff and relaxation! So I hope it'll be a bit more interesting than this.
Leah hi
