Rain
Yesterday we had a storm, which made us all very excited. Unfortunately all that came of it was some very loud thunder and about 10 drops of rain that I could feel. And a lot of wind while we were in the tuk tuk to Kampong Chhnang.
But the big grey clouds were very impressive. When the weather is hot and sunny or hot and cloudy every day, it does make a nice change even if the rain didn't really materialise.
In our subteam we run sessions on different subjects each week, which means every Monday we have a new subject. This is technically about half way through our work week though, because of the days off we have, so it can be a bit strange trying to switch half way through the week from a subject you've become pretty familiar with to a completely new one.
Yesterday we started a new subject of interview preparation, but unfortunately we only had two people. It can be pretty discouraging when you prepare a good, interactive and practical session to teach skills people need and you only get two students. We were told that most of our students had to attend a festival, so we know it wasn't our fault. All the same, we've had less than five people at the last four sessions we've run.
That's not to say I'm feeling terrible again. I'm still feeling much more positive than I was a few weeks ago and I'm still enjoying our subteam. We are very productive and we are thinking of ways to solve these challenges.
To end, here's a toad in our bathroom sandals.
Channa called me to look at him because she knew I'd want to see him. But she got very nervous when I moved him in the sandal out of the bathroom, even though I only moved it with my foot. She said touching them can make you blind? I looked it up online and I don't know if it's a myth. But yeah. Rain, work and toads.
There's definitely the potential the toad's secretions could make you blind - I know we get some here that can kill a dog in 15 minutes or so if it sniffs/licks one, which is slightly terrifying!!
ReplyDeleteThat's good to know!! 😱
