Schools and food

We had a half day today and then a session, so I was only in the office for about 45 minutes total, and completely forgot to take photos. Tomorrow - Sunday, unfortunately, again - I have to work in the office and at a Youth Group, so I will try and take photos. And hopefully catch the live stream of the morning service in the evening after work. I said that at some point I would try and put some photos of some Cambodian schools up, so here are some: This one is the school near my house.  Or rather, some cows at the school near my house.  But just past the school is the lane which leads to my host home. It's a primary school. All the kids shout hello when we go past to the office in the morning. These photos are of Hun Sen high school, where we had our session today.  There's a lot of open space, as you can see.  The buildings are long and rectangular, sometimes with two stories of classrooms. They're positioned around the outside of the spac...

Here are some pictures of the sunset this evening.  Not very much has happened today but I didn't want to skip posting too many times. This morning the Khmer had a meeting with our new VSO-Cambodia Provincial Officer. Sometimes so much happens in English that they get a bit left behind, so he was helping them make sure that they were clear on things. He's been very helpful this week - he only started on Monday. While they were doing that, we did some of our subteam work, but we mainly played Mafia - since the office is all one space we had to keep out of the way of the Khmer talk so we sat in one bit (the Employability team section) and played, just the UK members and Evie, our UK TL. Connor actually wasn't there as he wasn't feeling so good this morning. I might do a tour of the office at some point, just so you can see where I spend a lot of my time. Anyway after lunch we had our first Srae Thmei Youth Group. Only two people turned up, but it was still a...

Catch up

So sorry for the lull! I mostly post last thing at night, and I haven't slept so well lately so I've been pretty tired in the evenings. Also there hasn't been much to write about. But today I'm gonna try and summarise things a bit. Work We have conducted out first two sessions now. Here are some photos:  This a picture of our first session - about half the people we were expecting came, and all of them were monks, which meant we had to change the plan a bit. We also had some technical difficulties, but this week everything feels like a practice run, so we tried to move on from it.  Thankfully, the students were pretty engaged. We ran a quiz covering CVs, Interviews and Job seeking skills, to help refresh them from the last cycle, and pre-empt the things we are planning on covering in more detail during our cycle.  This is from the first half of our second session, with a new youth group at the same youth centre. The technical difficulties were even wor...

We went into the office for our last youth club meeting this morning, before we begin sessions. We had a miscommunication which meant that we thought it started at 10, and suddenly realised it started at 9, so we were half an hour late. But it was a good meeting anyway. We got a good level of information from the members we met and they seem very eager to learn.   This is the Youth Centre in Prey Moul, where we went today - it's the most rural of our groups And this is some buffalo on the way back Unfortunately Olivia has been ill, so she and the team leaders have been in the clinic most of the day. When we got back from our meeting we did some work for our sessions next week and waited to see if our TLs would get back. We're supposed to have one official team meeting a week, lead by one pair of counterparts, as well as an ACD (Active Citizenship Day) with activities based on one of the UN's SDGs, lead by another pair. This week the TLs were supposed to do it, b...
